Lifelong Aberdeen resident Albert Gabriel Meldrich, 92, passed away Monday, June 22, 2015 at Grays Harbor Health and Rehabilitation Center. Al was born March 25, 1923 in Aberdeen, Wash. to Carl and Carolina (Poplawski) Meldrich.
Al attended St. Marys School and graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1941. He then attended the University of Washington for two years. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII in the Philippines.
On July 17, 1948 Al married LaVerne Blaskowsky in Olympia. LaVerne passed away Dec. 11, 2014. Together they raised three daughters.
Al worked for many years as a knifegrinder at Posey Mfg. in Hoquiam. Al was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Elks, Knights of Columbus and the Polish Club.
He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, clam digging and he loved to tinker in his garage.
Al is survived by his three loving daughters Gay (Lloyd) Beil, Joanne (Greg) Reynvaan and Susan Rodenbeck; six grandchildren of whom he was very proud of, Angela (Vince) Brown, Timothy Beil, Kyle and Christopher Reynvaan, Matthew and Alexander Rodenbeck. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife LaVerne he was also preceded in death by his brother Walter Meldrich and sister Lee Berge.
Al’s family wishes to thank all the nurses and aides at Grays Harbor Health and Rehab.
